Juvéderm® injectable is the first FDA approved smooth consistency hyaluronic acid gel. Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally within the human body. When injected into wrinkles it smoothes them out by acting as a filling agent. When injected into a part of the body, like the lips, it plumps them up. Hyaluronic acid does not possess the allergic characteristics of some collagen type products and does not require skin testing prior to treatment.
Juvéderm® Injectable Procedure
Before receiving Juvéderm® it is best to forgo using any anti-inflammatory medications or aspirin for a week or more. When arriving at our Memphis Tennessee area location, your doctor will numb the local area that is being treated with a topical anesthetic. Then, Juvéderm®® will be injected beneath the skin. The entire treatment takes only about 30 minutes.
Hyaluronic acid usually lasts about twice as long a collagen; however sometimes a touch-up treatment before the product has fully dissipated will augment the lasting effect. There may be some temporary discomfort at the time of injection. This may be minimized by the application of prescription strength numbing cream. Redness and swelling at the site of injection can occur.
After Juvéderm® Treatment
Juvéderm® is done in an outpatient visit. You can leave the office once the injections are given. However, you will need to avoid direct sun exposure, heat and extreme coldness for the first two weeks after the procedure. Make-up and skin care can continue as normal. It is best to wear sunscreen and avoid using skin care products containing alcohol. The hyaluronic acid in Juvéderm® injectable will be naturally absorbed by your body. However, Juvéderm® is a long lasting filler. In fact, some people who have Juvéderm® injections have results that last an entire year. However, on average the results last between 6 to 9 months.
